MANCHESTER CITY ARE SUING THE PREMIER LEAGUE
Manchester City are suing the Premier League over changes to its financial rules.
Manchester City are seeking arbitration over the associated-party transaction rules introduced in 2021 and tightened this February which according to Sky News, “are intended to ensure a level playing field among English football’s elite teams by preventing clubs from signing commercial deals at inflated prices, thereby enabling them to spend even greater sums on players”.
The rules stipulate that all sponsorship deals have to be done at a fair market price. Manchester City argue that this conflicts with competition law.
