The body of a man, believed to be British tourist Jay Slater, has been discovered on the Spanish island of Tenerife.

The 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, had been missing for nearly a month after vanishing on June 17 while navigating the mountainous terrain of the Rural de Teno national park.

Authorities confirmed the discovery today. A spokesperson for the Civil Guard stated, “After 29 constant days of searching, the lifeless body of the young man has been found in the Masca area.”

While formal identification is still pending, initial evidence suggests the body is that of the missing British tourist. Preliminary investigations indicate that Slater may have suffered an accident or fall in the rugged area where his body was found.

The search operation, which spanned nearly a month, involved extensive efforts by local authorities. The discovery in the Masca area marks a tragic end to the search for Slater, whose disappearance had prompted widespread concern.

The circumstances leading to Slater’s disappearance and the subsequent discovery of his body remain under investigation.
